Skeptic to Believer: The Power of Goal Setting

Skeptic to Believer: The Power of Goal Setting is how I overcame my anxiety every New Year regarding goals. I often felt a bit nervous when a new year began. I tended to put pressure on myself to set goals, which caused me anxiety because I knew that I wouldn’t achieve them. Why do I think that? Well, because in the past, I didn’t even write them down and often didn’t take them seriously. I think that the end of a year and the beginning of another made me realize that the positive changes I wanted in my life didn’t happen. Then I would beat myself up emotionally and couldn’t enjoy the fact that God had given me the gift of a New Year!

Last year, I wanted to understand why everyone talked about setting goals and how to stay committed to them. Deep down, I knew I must have thought about making positive changes, or else those ideas wouldn’t have crossed my mind. So, in my quest to finally achieve meaningful goals that could improve my life and bring happiness if accomplished, I did something different. I took the time to write those goals down!

Set Goals to Discover Your Purpose:

Skeptic to Believer: The Poser of Goal Setting

I’ve learned that writing down your goals and keeping them in view, looking at them daily, is like having a roadmap to stay focused and on track. As you achieve these goals, you’ll stay motivated and continue working on what matters most.

  • Focus: Goals provide focus on your intentions, directing your attention toward what truly counts.
  • Drive: Clear goals can ignite motivation and determination, propelling you into action.
  • Progress: Goals offer measurable milestones, enabling you to monitor advancement and commemorate accomplishments.
  • Responsibility: Establishing goals makes you responsible for your personal development and triumphs.
  • Celebration: When you reach them, it’s a reason to be happy and excited. It makes you want to do even better and keep moving forward.

Elevate Your Year: Craft Goals with These Tips

  • Be Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve. Example: In one year, I want to increase my income by 20%
  • Make Them Measurable: Set goals that can be measured or quantified. This allows you to track your progress. Example: Break up the goal into timeframes, such as 3 months, 6 months, or 9 months.
  • Realistic and Achievable: While it’s great to aim high, ensure your goals are realistic and attainable within the given time frame. If the goals are too high and too difficult to achieve, you will most often stray away from them, and you may feel like a failure.
  • Set a Timeline: Establish a deadline for each goal. A timeframe adds urgency and structure to your goals.
  • Write Your Goals Down: Putting your goals in writing makes them more tangible and reinforces your commitment.

Goals Should Reflect the Dreams You Have for Your Life:

  • Career Goals: Aim for professional development, such as a promotion, a new job, or skill acquisition. My goal was to begin a business for myself that I could do from home. For me, the Performance Blogging System was my dream for a better way.
  • Financial Goals: Plan for financial security, savings, or investments.
  • Health and Wellness Goals: Prioritize physical and mental well-being through fitness, nutrition, and self-care. This was an important goal for me, especially since I am getting older and can see changes in my health. That is when I discovered Biohacking a Better You!
  • Relationship Goals: Strengthen personal relationships with family, friends, or significant others. I needed to slow down and focus on spending time with my friends and family. To really “Be There” and relax, enjoy the time. As a matter of fact, I joined a Wine Club and met with others to do pairings with recipes.
  • Learning Goals: In addition, keep learning throughout life; consider joining Brainfood Academy to teach children at home, politics-free; and see how you learn as well.

Skeptic to Believer: The Power of Goal Setting Transformed Me. Now, as a new year approaches, I no longer feel depressed. Instead, I see the progress I’ve made towards my important goals. While I may not achieve them 100%, the journey towards a happier me is a fantastic result. Setting new year’s goals shapes your future, helps you overcome challenges, and invites you to explore new horizons. Remember, the journey is as significant as reaching your goals. So, stay focused and determined, celebrating every success. Here’s to a year of growth, achievements, and fulfillment in the New Year!
